Troyes head coach Stephane Dumont further explained his decision to remove Socceroos goalkeeper Patrick Beach from the starting XI.

Beach’s Troyes adventure has hit a speedbump following a difficult start to life in Ligue 1, with the Australia international dropped for last week’s 0-0 draw with Toulouse and replaced by 31-year-old Burkina Faso international Hillel Konate.

The 23-year-old earned a move to Europe thanks to his FIFA World Cup exploits in North America, swapping Melbourne City for Troyes through the City Football Group network ahead of season 2026-27.

However, Beach was demoted to the bench for Troyes’ draw with Toulouse after the club had suffered five consecutive losses, conceding 15 goals in the process and Konate stepped in to keep a clean sheet.

With Troyes playing Le Mans on Sunday (AEDT), Dumont was asked if his decision to change goalkeepers paid off.

“Yes, but that’s based on one match,” he told reporters. “I explained it after the Toulouse game. We’re here to make decisions.

“And it’s true that, in that area, there had been a recurring lack of effectiveness since the beginning of the season.

“We felt it was time for Hillel to show what he could do. In any case, we had no doubts about his ability.

“But we also needed to look for something a little different in that position.

“Someone capable of bringing something else to the team beyond just making saves and it’s true that keeping a clean sheet was a positive.

“It helped us regain some defensive solidity and secure that point but that’s only the reality of that particular match.

“As I’ve just said, we also need to show consistency in that area.”
